Our Solution
The City received a grant for the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for a community center/storm shelter. A site was selected in the original downtown business district. A building site was available at the end of a block of businesses which had been abandoned and cleared. The last building in the row was renovated and used as part of the community center providing two large meeting rooms and storage with a total of 1,650 SF. The new portion of the community center which also serves as the storm shelter was built adjoining the existing building. This 3,040 SF community center/storm shelter addition includes a large meeting/ shelter room, full-service kitchen, rest rooms with one shower in each, storage closet and mechanical room.
The design of this building involved five professional disciplines – architectural, civil, electrical, mechanical and structural engineer- ing. Hayter Engineering managed the communication, coordination and execution of services for all of these disciplines.
