Over the past 40 years, this channel had experienced significant erosion to a point that adjacent properties were sustaining damage. In addition, the sanitary sewer line that runs along the channel had deteriorated and regularly backed up and spilled in the channel. As a result, construction plans and specifications were developed to replace the deteriorated sewer line and reconstruct and protect the eroded channel .
The project involved topographic surveys, stream condition assessment, development of detailed hydrologic and hydraulic models for the contributing watershed and channel, channel design, coordination with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the creation of construction plans and specifications. The construction plans allowed the City to restore and protect this severely eroded channel, and minimize flooding.
This project was part of a $35 million dollar water and sewer system rehabilitation undertaken by the City of Paris as part of their Capital Improvements Plan (CIP). Hayter Engineering (channel design) teamed with AECOM (sanitary sewer design) and Blanton & Associates (environmental) to complete this project.
